Engineers embedded where the work actually happens
Most AI and enterprise software pilots don’t fail because the model or the code is bad — they fail at the integration wall: legacy auth, data residency, compliance, systems that were never meant to talk to each other. AX3’s FDE teams sit inside your environment and close that gap.

AX3 delivery benchmark
Ownership of the deployment, not just the advice
- 01
Embedded, not detached
Engineers work inside your environment and your workflows, not from an external backlog.
- 02
Production code, not demos
They ship against real systems: your auth, your data pipelines, your compliance constraints.
- 03
Technical outcome ownership
Not advisory, not a best-practices deck — accountable for the thing actually working.
- 04
Matched to AX3's Dedicated Remote Teams model
Same BOT delivery heritage, same embedded-pod structure used across every AX3 engagement.
What forward deployed engineering is not
Not a staff-augmentation ticket queue waiting on your backlog grooming.
Not an advisory engagement that ends at a recommendation deck.
Not a proof-of-concept team that hands over a demo and disappears.
Not an offshore black box — the pod works in your tools, your rituals, your repos.
FDE vs staffing, outsourcing and traditional consulting
The difference is accountability. Forward Deployed Engineering is measured on the capability running in production, not on hours supplied, tickets closed or slides delivered.
| AX3 FDE | Staff augmentation | Outsourcing | Traditional consulting | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Accountable for | Working capability in production | Filled seats | Scoped ticket throughput | Recommendations and roadmaps |
| Who owns the outcome | AX3, jointly with your team | Your managers | The vendor, inside an SLA | Shared, ends at handover |
| Where the work happens | Inside your environment and repos | Inside your teams | Vendor delivery centre | Workshops and documents |
| Seniority | Senior engineers only | Mixed, level to order | Pyramid, junior-heavy | Partner-led, analyst-delivered |
| Typical duration | 6–16 weeks per outcome | Open-ended | Multi-year contract | 8–12 week study |
| Exit | Capability and code transferred to you | People leave, knowledge leaves | Lock-in risk | Report delivered |
Swipe the table horizontally to see every model.
Choose Forward Deployed Engineering when…
A pilot works but production does not
The model, agent or integration performs in a sandbox and stalls on legacy auth, data residency, latency or compliance.
The problem is too specific for a packaged program
Your constraints — a proprietary MES, a regulated data boundary, a 20-year-old order system — need engineering judgment on site.
Speed matters more than headcount
You need a capability live in weeks, and hiring or onboarding a large vendor team would consume the whole window.
You want the capability to stay with you
Code, runbooks and operating knowledge transfer to your engineers so the outcome survives the engagement.
If you need people rather than owned outcomes, AX3 Talent Solutions is the better fit; for full-stack programs, start with Technology Solutions.
Embed → Diagnose → Build → Deploy → Scale
- 01
Embed
Engineers land inside your environment — access, systems, standups and security review in the first days, not the first month.
- 02
Diagnose
Map the real integration wall: legacy auth, data residency, brittle interfaces, approval gates and the constraints nobody documented.
- 03
Build
Ship production code against real systems and real data, in short increments reviewed by your own engineering leadership.
- 04
Deploy
Get it into production behind your controls: security sign-off, observability, rollback paths and runbooks.
- 05
Scale & hand back
Harden, document and transfer ownership to your team — or keep the pod running as a managed capability.

Three moments FDE is built for
“AI pilot stuck in the sandbox”
FDE gets it into production against real data and auth.
“Legacy system won't talk to the new platform”
FDE builds the integration layer.
“Enterprise buyer needs proof before they'll commit”
FDE embeds pre-contract to de-risk the deployment.

What is forward deployed engineering?
Forward deployed engineering places senior engineers inside your environment to build and ship production software against your real systems — your identity, data, integrations and compliance constraints — rather than delivering advice or a detached proof of concept.
How is FDE different from staff augmentation?
Staff augmentation supplies capacity that works through your backlog. An AX3 FDE pod owns a technical outcome end to end: discovery with your business users, deployment-specific code, production release and handover.
How is FDE different from consulting?
Consulting typically ends at a recommendation. FDE is accountable for the deployment actually working in production, including the integration, security review and operational readiness that follow the recommendation.
What does an AX3 FDE pod look like?
A dedicated remote pod combining project management, engineering, QA and business analysis, sized to the program and delivered through AX3's Dedicated Remote Teams model with BOT delivery heritage.
Which technologies do AX3 FDE teams cover?
AI, data platforms, Salesforce, SAP, cloud and platform engineering, and industrial or semiconductor engineering environments.
How quickly can an FDE engagement start?
Scoping usually takes one to two weeks, after which the pod embeds and begins working inside your environment. Exact timing depends on access provisioning and security onboarding on your side.
